NDG Linux Essentials

Course Overview

The Linux Essentials course, developed and supported by Networking Academy partner NDG, teaches students the fundamentals of the Linux operating system and command line, and basic open source concepts. 

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand how Linux is used and the basics of the command line.
  • Apply skills using Linux virtual machine with step-by-step and hands-on lab activities.
  • Build foundational knowledge for progressively mastering Linux commands.
  • Connect with the global Cisco Networking Academy community.

Students utilize a web browser to access the Linux Essentials content modules, lab exercises and virtual machines via Cisco NetAcad.com. Each learner has hands-on access to a Linux virtual machine to practice, explore, and test Linux command-line concepts. The 16-chapter, 70-hour course can be offered as instructor-led or students can enroll on their own (English only).


Mobility Fundamentals

Course Overview

Wireless and mobility technologies are essential skills for a career in networking during today's digital transformation and economy. The Mobility Fundamentals course provides foundational wireless knowledge and skills. The 9-hour course covers different technical aspect of wireless networking, and helps students develop competencies in:

  • Understand wireless networking technology basics
  • Configure wireless LAN components
  • Understand wireless LAN security
  • Set up a home Internet access
  • Understand mobile networking applications, like BOYD
  • Understand how to troubleshoot Wireless LANs

Introduction to IoT

Course Overview

Introduction to IoT is a self-paced, 20-hour course that students can take on their own or it can be offered by an instructor. It provides an overview of the concepts and challenges of the transformational digital economy when people, process, data, and things connect.

Intro to IoT introduces the concept of a network foundation connecting billions of things and trillions of gigabytes of data to enhance decision making and interactions. Course modules describe how IoE drives the convergence between an organization’s operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) systems, and the business processes for evaluating a problem and implementing an IoE solution. Machine-to-machine (M2M), machine-to-people (M2P), and people-to-people (P2P) connections in an IoE solution are also covered.


Cybersecurity Essentials

Course Overview

The Cybersecurity Essentials course develops foundational understanding of cybersecurity and how it relates to information and network security. The 30-hour course introduces students to characteristics of cyber crime, security principles, technologies, and procedures to defend networks. Through interactive, multimedia content, lab activities, and multi-industry case studies, students build technical and professional skills to pursue careers in cybersecurity.

  • Learn procedures to implement data confidentiality, integrity, availability and security controls on networks, servers and applications.
  • Understand security principles and how to develop security policies that comply with cybersecurity laws.
  • Apply skills through practice, using labs and Cisco Packet Tracer activities.

Introduction to Packet Tracer

The Introduction to Packet Tracer is a 10-hour self-paced course highlights the basic features of the simulation tool for new users and how to use the package to include, connect, and program IoT devices into a network. A series of short and lively videos will guide users through the steps to create new networks, modify existing networks, and verify device connectivity within the network.  Short labs that follow the videos in each section are an integral component to the learning process.  

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the function and installation of Packet Tracer.

  • Create a simple simulated network using Packet Tracer.

  • Investigate network functionality using simulation mode.

  • Investigate the Packet Tracer physical view.

  • Identify different uses of Packet Tracer.

  • Configure IoT devices in Packet Tracer.

  • Connect and control IoT devices to a network using a Home Gateway and a Registration Server.

  • Modify the environmental conditions within a Packet Tracer physical container.

  • Create and Program Objects in Packet Tracer.
